Last updated: 17 October 2026. Applies to Quwire’s beta builds on TestFlight.
In short: Quwire doesn’t collect, send or sell your personal data. This version can’t even connect to the internet: it runs in Apple’s App Sandbox without network access. Everything Quwire saves stays on your Mac.
What Quwire does on your Mac
To play sound on several outputs at once, Quwire uses macOS’s standard audio system (Core Audio). It:
- reads your audio outputs and inputs: their names, how they connect (built-in, USB, Bluetooth, HDMI…), model identifiers, volume and sample rate, and your Mac’s model name, to list them and show the right icons;
- while Quwire is on, changes your sound settings: it creates a combined output called “Quwire”, makes it your Mac’s sound output, and sets the volume and, where needed, the sample rate of the outputs in your mix. With Keep headphone mics off (on by default) it also makes the built-in microphone the input, so headphones keep full sound quality;
- when you turn it off or quit, puts everything back: your previous output, input, volumes and sample rates, and removes the “Quwire” output. If Quwire ever quits unexpectedly, it does this the next time it opens.
Quwire never records, listens to or stores audio, and doesn’t use the microphone itself.
What Quwire stores
Only on your Mac, in Quwire’s own sandbox folder (~/Library/Containers/com.stanleydevops.quwire):
- your mixes (their names, outputs and volume levels), your settings, the names of outputs it has seen (so a disconnected one can still be shown by name) and the icons you picked;
- a small record of your previous sound settings, so it can always restore them;
- your keyboard shortcuts and window positions;
- technical messages in macOS’s own log, for troubleshooting. Bluetooth addresses are masked. They stay on your Mac unless you send them to someone yourself.
Deleting Quwire and that folder removes all of it.
Open at login and keyboard shortcuts
Both work only on your Mac. Open at login adds Quwire to your login items through macOS; you’ll find it in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions. Quwire’s keyboard shortcuts are registered with macOS, which tells Quwire only when you press one of them. Quwire never sees the other keys you type, and it reads a key only in its own Settings window, while you record a new shortcut there.
What Quwire sends
Nothing. This version has no analytics service, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party code inside the app.
You’ll see a switch called Share anonymous usage data during setup and in Settings. In this version it sends nothing, whether it’s on or off: when it’s on, Quwire only writes those counts to your Mac’s own log. If a future version starts sending anonymous usage statistics, this policy will say so before that version is released, and the switch will turn it off.
Apple’s services
- TestFlight. If you test Quwire through TestFlight, Apple collects data under its own TestFlight terms and may share some of it with me, for example crash reports, the feedback and screenshots you send, your Mac model and macOS version, and in some cases your name or email address. Apple handles this; I use it only to fix problems and to reply to you.
- Crash reports. If you turned on Share with app developers in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash reports with me without your identity.
- Links. Privacy Policy, Support and Open Bluetooth Settings in Quwire open this website in your browser, or System Settings.
Your choices and rights
Quwire keeps no personal data about you on any server, so there is nothing for me to look up, export or delete. If you sent me feedback or an email and want it deleted, write to me and I will delete it. If you live in the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If anything here changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top before the new version is released.
